I know so many moms who have a struggle with their daughters. I am one of those!
Recently I had one of those not so cool moments as a mom with her. She was trying to push the cooler in the van that was in her walkpath. In her frustration she pushed it too hard and it all fell over in the van. In my frustration I acted in anger with her and yelling. The Lord spoke to me through what my sister in law Julie said. She said, “Don’t you think she did to the cooler what you do to her?” And God just showed me how to just have more compassion on her instead of anger.
It was a real breakthrough in my mind about our relationship. God showed me that since she is my first child she has been the brunt of all my mistakes as a parent. That since she has experienced a lot my weaknesses I am to have an utmost compassion for her. And to couple that compassion I am to have the mindset to train her the most.
Those are the two things that are helping our hearts grow more towards each other in love.
Training is something I wasn’t used to or felt good at. God is just giving me wisdom through articles I read on the internet about training.
We all know the verse: Proverbs 22:6 “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”
For example, I am taking the time more to have her go back and do it right. Sometimes she doesn’t know what the right thing is or know my expectation so I’m so thankful to train her more and more. I try to give a consequence right away after the offense, then go right into training. By giving her a consequence right away it makes my frustration and anger go down. This is the goal! Do I always do this every time!?? No way! But it is definitely my prayer and goal!
John 15:5 “”Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”
I am resting in Jesus. He is my everything. The Holy Spirit teaches me and guides me everyday, every moment I live. I am also reading a book called “Teaching from Rest” by Sarah Mackenzie
This book is so timely for all that God is doing in and through me. Even if you won’t homeschool these principles are crucial for parenting the right way!!!
